RS200 Project Update: Bellhousing Mod for Tremec Gearbox

There’s always something new happening in our workshop, and this week’s RS200 update is all about progress, precision, and performance. Our team has just completed a key step in drivetrain development — modifying our existing Cosworth YB to Renault UN1 bellhousing to suit the Tremec gearbox.

Why the Change?

The Ford RS200 has always been a technical masterpiece. Staying faithful to that legacy means combining authentic design with modern reliability and availability. The Tremec transmission offers the strength, gear ratios, and parts support we need for both street and competition use — without compromising the car’s character.

Adapting the Cosworth YB → UN1 bellhousing to work with the Tremec unit lets us retain much of the original mounting geometry while opening up new options for drivetrain tuning and serviceability. It’s a small change on paper, but it’s a big leap forward for long-term usability and future builds.

Engineering the Perfect Fit

This modification involved detailed machining, alignment checks, and CAD modelling to ensure everything fits perfectly within the RS200’s tight engine bay. The goal was to create a seamless interface between classic rally engineering and modern transmission technology.

We’re also documenting every step of this process so future RS200 owners can benefit from the same upgrade path — keeping the legend alive while improving reliability and parts support.

What’s Next?

With the bellhousing mod now complete, we’ll move on to final drivetrain alignment and test fitting. Once verified, we’ll incorporate the Tremec option into future RS200 builds. It’s another milestone in our mission to make our Group B-inspired recreations as practical to own as they are thrilling to drive.

If you’re following our builds, stay tuned — more RS200 fabrication updates are coming soon.
