Lancia News: Delta S4 Chassis #3 Now in Build at Our UK Workshop

Lancia News: Delta S4 UK Workshop Update

There’s exciting Lancia News coming straight from our UK workshop this month. As many enthusiasts already know, we set out to recreate the legendary Lancia Delta S4 — a Group B icon that left a mark on rallying history. What began as a one-off demonstrator quickly captured the imagination of fans, and we soon found ourselves with build requests. We’re now well underway with chassis number three, and this update gives you a behind-the-scenes look at our progress.

If you’d like to explore our Lancia Delta S4 parts, builds or related products, you can browse our Lancia Delta S4 category here.

Bringing Group B Engineering Back to Life

Our aim is to honour the original Delta S4 as faithfully as possible. We remain committed to preserving the balance of performance, engineering and character that made the S4 such a standout in the Group B era.

Naturally, original 1980s parts are now extremely scarce. As a result, we use modern equivalents only where necessary — but always with respect for authenticity. From the outside, our cars look just as the S4 did in its prime. Every GRP panel reflects the correct shape, fit and iconic presence of the original.

One of the biggest challenges lies in the engine and drivetrain, especially given the rarity and cost of original components. This Lancia Delta S4 News update would not be complete without mentioning our current powertrain plans.

Lancia Delta S4 News: Powertrain Development

We are currently evaluating two exciting engine options that best capture the spirit of the original twin-charged setup.

The Volvo T6 twin-charge engine shares the same core philosophy as the factory S4 unit: instant response, torque across the rev range, and fierce top-end power. As a modern unit, it also offers reliability and parts availability.

We’re also exploring a Ford EcoBoost 2.3T with an additional supercharger. This is familiar territory for us, as we use the EcoBoost platform in our RS200 recreations. We’re now assessing whether a similar configuration will suit the Delta S4 frame and performance expectations.

As always, we welcome suggestions from the community — many great ideas come from fellow enthusiasts and engineers. If you have expertise, insight or even curiosity about possible powertrains, we’d love to hear from you.

From Small Acorns to a Growing Legacy

As a small but dedicated team, we balance this project alongside ongoing customer work. Despite that, we’re making continuous, exciting progress. Many S4 components are now fully modelled in CAD, which ensures precision and repeatability for future builds.

This project was never intended to be rushed. Craftsmanship takes time, and we want to ensure that each recreation represents the best possible version of itself. Our focus is always on delivering a final product that reflects the passion and heritage behind the Lancia name.

Craftsmanship, Fabrication and Materials

We combine traditional motorsport craftsmanship with modern engineering tools to produce a chassis and body worthy of the S4 badge.

  • The spaceframe uses ROPT510 tubing for the rollover protection structure

  • Additional CDS tubing supports the rest of the framework

  • We’re tooling up for cast aluminium rear hubs

  • 5-axis machined front hubs are in development

  • GRP body panels are produced by our experienced composites partner

  • Select panels use carbon-Kevlar composites, and full carbon-Kevlar sets can be produced on request

This investment ensures not only accuracy, but long-term repeatability — so enthusiasts can enjoy S4 recreations for years to come.

Building for the Future of Lancia Replicas

Every chassis we build strengthens our knowledge base, tooling, and component catalogue. Our vision is not only to create a select number of cars but to build a sustainable pathway for the Lancia Delta S4 to live on through high-quality recreations.

This is more than just a build — it’s a continuation of rally history, crafted with respect and precision.
